This post is an honest attempt to procrastinate studying for my us diplomatic history test.
Bouldered at stoney point on tuesday and today. Mike Waugh, Christina, and I meet up every week, twice a week. We have super cool sessions. We talk about whats going on in our lives, politics, climbing, life, its good stuff. Today we started at the sculptor's crack traverse, then mike showed us a handful of really cool highballs that dont get done to often anymore. Im not the biggest fan of highballs; but Christina is, and Mike has solo'd some gnarly stuff. So i kinda just had to sack up and control my breathing in order to hang. I had to back down and down climb one, it didnt feel right, i was off balance and felt like i had to throw for the crux hold at the top, which wasn't happening. apart from that one, we were sharing fistpounds all afternoon because it was a sendtrain. the highlight was this one that was 20+ up, but the landing was into a canyon of rocks. highsteps and balance. the ledges were relatively positive, but bomber, if you blew a foot you werent going to be able to weight one of the hands and hold on, you would pop off for sure. i dont know how difficult it was, its hard to tell on these tuesday thursday sessions. Mike honestly makes v8 moves look like v0, and christina is fearless and really strong. we finished the night doing these really contrived gruesome little eliminates and variations on boulder 1. then chilled on our crashpads, and talked in the dark, as we ignored the reality of the traffic that we would soon face.
going to Joshua Tree tommorow until Sunday. Meeting up with my crazy friend Johnny in Hidden Valley. Waugh will be out there too, and meeting up with him on saturday. So we'll see what this weekend holds. All i know is that im going to be car camping to the max, im bringing the cot and the grill, whole nine yards, its a dirty shame chats not coming with his dutch oven to deliver some cobbler. Im pretty bummed ariel cant make it out. ah well. should be a bitchin weekend; johnny brings full meaning to the descriptions "a character" or "larger than life", hes a trip. he is covered in tattoos, pushing 40, used to compete in moto-x, his wife left him and turned gay, he now has a girlfriend who is a psycholoist for nasa, and all he does is tend horses, run and climb. apparently he knows joshua tree well.
Currently I have been listening to Bishop Allen alot, the songs flight 180 and middle management are sweet, also have been laying off of the new ted leo and listening to the old stuff, listening to calexico garden ruin at this very moment, spoon's gagagaga still. i havent been to the climbing gym in weeks, i always feel physically strongest when i climb in the gym during the week, but if I dont and boulder outside instead during the week- I dont feel as strong but i do feel more confident and comfortable on rock and light and smart/efficient. its wierd but very real/true. eating healthy is tough. all i eat at the cafe is salad and turkey on wheat, that Shiz gets so old. I want to read alot after school is done for this semester, particuarly a bunch when im in Bishop, I have a bunch of hemingway and tolstoy and joyce on my list right now, particularly anne karenina by tolstoy, ooh and both of Rand's bigger works again, i would appreciate any suggestions- i want to compile a solid book list, then go to some used book stores and pick them all up before i roll up north. i have no 8 am class tommorow! yeahyaa.
