chasm of doom

This weekend was quite eventful. Went to Joshua Tree with Johnny. I thought Mike Hass would make it, and Ariel, and Chat, but i ended up cruising solo.
To start the weekend off right, I couldnt find Johnny friday night, and had to kick these two guys some cash to let me sleep/park in their site. Found Johnny bright and early in hidden valley, grinded some coffee, did a boulder problem, than got to the business - climbing. We did 10 trad pitches over the course of the weekend. Started off on "the roof" at intersection rock. Its a solid climb. and, as I was turning the roof, and feeling the most intense exposure i have ever felt, still groggy from a terrible sleep... Johnny's utterance from 15 minutes before hit me "dude, i haven't placed pro (protection) in over a year dude...hahaha". Then as I am cranking on this roof crack, which is two pitches up, and did i mention exposed?, i remember him soloing routes at New Jack City, and I realize that he isnt as cautious about this stuff as most normal people are. It was a rush. Its a good thing to get scared still. made it, and over the course of the weekend, cleaning all his protection, I grew to trust him alot. Its just a really funny thing climbing trad with someone you KIND OF know. especially a character like johnny.
other highlights of the trip included touch and go, popes crack, iffity two----really sporty start, and some super run-out slab, which is basically soloing. I did get to lead a steep sport route with positive holds. Oh I cant forget the feeling that hit me while i was belaying johnny on this 11b, when he decided to throw in an overhead foot jam. that was a sight, i was all over that a.t.c. no he did not sink it.
saturday night we (well johnny) recruited a group of kids form ucla, and took us through this adventure called the chasm of doom, which involved getting to the summit of this high rock formation, but through the bowels of it, it was pitch black, couldnt see my hand in front of my face, and had to do a bunch of like vb-v0/1 boulder problems, chimneys. it was one of a kind. this guy behind me fell, and he was freaking out, talking about how he was falling backwards into darkness, having no idea when or what he would hit "bracing for impact", it was pretty funny.
sunday was a chill day, did three solid cracks and headed out to make it home before dark. oh and i picked up a hitchhiker who was having a mental breakdown because his girlfriend was hit by a car last night. that was a conversation and a half right thurrr. ok, im off to get some sushi with my sister. I neeeeed to start building a rack. the new alien cams are seeeeeek
